minyan

quorum of ten acceptable men needed for public worship

Historically this has referred to a quorum of ten male Jewish adults required for certain religious obligations. That would include any observant, male Jew of at least normal intelligence above the age of 13. However, in recent times, this has expanded in some communities to include women as well. This also has the alternative meaning of being any Jewish prayer service. It comes from the Hebrew word מִניָנִים (minyanim).
