Blintz - otherwise spelled blintze or blin - are thin pancakes, similar to crêpes, but can by made with yeast, where as crêpes cannot. Due to their circular shape, they were eaten ritually by Slavic people in pre-Christian time as a way to honor the sun. This tradition is carried on by the Orthodox church. Blintz were popularized in the United States as a Chanukah food by Jewish immigrants.
